The lack of interest in making an emulator isn’t because people didn’t like the Xbox (obviously it was a very popular system) but because it wasn’t really the exclusive home of the best version of pretty much any game released for it. If more people had been banging there heads against this I think this nut would’ve been cracked sooner. There’s definitely some 100% exclusive hidden gems for the Xbox, just not a ton of them really.ĭifficulty in emulating was a factor for sure (I think the Nvidia connection plays a part in that?) but I think it was more that there wasn’t a ton of interest in emulating the system. Still it’s cool to see actual progress being made on one.
Also add in the fact that some exclusive titles like Voodoo Vince (shockingly) and Panzer Dragoon Orta have been rereleased or remastered since the Xbox generation and that sort of results in even fewer reasons for people to want to make an Xbox emulator. Yes, there are some 100% exclusive titles for the Xbox and some of them are great but many of them aren’t. Why would you want to play the Xbox version of Deus Ex: Invisible War emulated on a PC when you can just play the PC version? Yes, the best console versions of multiplatform games tended to be on Xbox but often the differences to other versions were marginal at most or often an even better PC version existed. So add in the difficulties that come with emulating it properly and I just think not a lot of people wanted to put the work in for seemingly little return.
